British Campers Choose Comfort Over Canvas

Britain can still claim to be a nation of campers, but today’s holidaymaker is more likely to choose a power shower and oven over canvas and a ground sheet.

France specialist siblu holidays says around 50% of its holiday parc customers will opt for a top-of-the-range mobile home for their stay under the stars in 2006.

The popularity of luxury mobile homes — which allow families added space and extras such as fridge freezers, dishwashers and air conditioning — is booming, while the demand for tents falls every year. With the introduction of new mod cons including flat screen TVs, American-style fridges and twin showers, the trend for choosing mobile homes is set to continue.

Laurie Adams, siblu commercial director says: “Today’s campers, especially families, still revel in the joy of the outdoors but they are after more luxury.

“Mobile homes ensure they enjoy the essence of a great camping holiday, with plenty of green space and sites to explore, without sacrificing comfort and the indulgences we’ve all grown so used to.

“National camping week in May (27 May to 2 June) is a great chance for families to explore a new destination. France is one of the most beautiful and
camper-friendly countries in the world, and we urge people to get out there and explore.”
