Costa Cruises Brings The 2006 FIFA World Cup To The Open Sea

Costa Cruises has made a special agreement with SKY to offer guests on all Costa ships the chance to watch every World Cup 2006 match

It's less than a month until kick-off at the 2006 FIFA World Cup: the opening game gets underway on 9th June and the tournament reaches its climax on 9th July with the World Cup Final! This is the event of the year and cannot be missed, even if it clashes with the all important summer holiday.

For the first time, The World Cup will be broadcast by SKY on pay-per-view only and Costa Cruises has signed a deal with SKY so that no matter where they are on the seas, guests will be able to watch every game live from Germany, on all 11 ships in the fleet - namely the Costa Magica, Costa Atlantica and Costa Classica deployed in that period in Northern Europe; the Costa Mediterranea, Costa Victoria, Costa Romantica, Costa Europa and Costa Marina in the Eastern Mediterranean; and the Costa Fortuna and the brand new Costa Concordia in the Western Mediterranean.

In fact, the Costa Concordia will be embarking on her maiden voyage on 9th July 2006, the day of the World Cup Final! If you are one of the people lucky enough to be on board the Costa Concordia, the largest ship in Italian seafaring, you will be able to enjoy the excitement of the final in a unique setting, while the vessel is at sea heading for Tunisia. All fans aboard will enjoy a great view of the sporting event of the year thanks to the giant 18 m2 screen in the central pool area of the ship.

The pool area is fitted with a 3500 m2 retractable glass roof so you are guaranteed optimum viewing conditions no matter what the weather is like on the day!

The Costa Concordia weighs in at 112,000 gross tonnage, while she is some 290 metres in length and 36 metres in breadth. 13 decks, 1500 cabins, including 505 veranda cabins and 70 suites. 13 bars, 4 restaurants in addition to the exclusive à la carte Ristorante Club. Impressive figures for a top quality cruise, in inimitable Italian style!

As well as the mega-screen, the Costa Concordia offers a host of other innovations, like the Samsara Spa, an exclusive wellness centre extending more than 2100 m², directly overlooking the sea, with spa baths, a rock sauna, Turkish bath, gym and Thalassotherapy Pool. Another new addition is the Formula 1 driving simulator, where you can get the adrenalin going as you experience the thrills of Grand Prix racing. There are three levels of difficulty to test your reflexes and give you a genuine taste of life in the fast lane!
