A new Cycling programme from Inntravel

In response to demand for gentle independent cycling holidays in Europe, Inntravel introduces a new programme for spring, summer and autumn 2006 entitled Cycling and More.

Inntravel has offered some cycling holidays in the past, but Cycling and More is a comprehensive 44-page brochure with 24 routes on offer in France, Portugal, Spain and Italy. Among the many magical moments on two wheels are cycling along lagoon islands in Italy, with the panorama of Venice ahead, and arriving in the castellated hill town of San Vincente in La Rioja to sample wines in a remarkable choice of 33 bodegas.

Some specialist cycling operators offer group holidays, others offer independent holidays on set departures or just France. However, this new programme of relaxed cycling – or ‘pootling’, as Inntravel calls it for ‘amateur cyclists’ - is thought to be the only European cycling programme that offers complete flexibility – with departures on any day of the week, for as long as you like, and with or without flights.

Those who have not ridden a bicycle for a while need not worry as there are routes for everyone. Equally, for those who fancy doing a few more miles, the itineraries are flexible and cyclists are free to choose how they spend their day. Itineraries are usually built around two nights in each hotel, allowing cyclists to enjoy the occasional ‘rest day’.

Among the many new cycling holidays for this year are:

·Ancient Périgord – from Souillac sur Dordogne to Carsac Aillac
·Bastide Villages of the South-West – a discovery of south-west France’s fortified villages
·Two holidays in Provence: Classic Provence and Luberon Valleys & Villages
·The Rolling Plains of the Alentejo in Portugal
·The Hills and Vineyards of La Rioja
·White Towns to the Southern Plains of Andalucia
·Two holidays in Asturias: the Rugged Coast of Eastern Asturias, and The Wild Costa Verde
·Three routes in Tuscany: Maremma to the Sea in Western Tuscany, San Gimignano & the Sienese Plains; and Siena & Southern Tuscany
·Two in the Veneto, Italy: Vicenza to the Prosecco Vineyards, and Vicenza to the Venetian Lagoon.

The flexible packages include comfortable hotels with great hospitality and restaurants, modern, well-maintained bikes with full back-up assistance on hand, detailed cycling notes and maps, and luggage transported from hotel to hotel, so that cyclists can travel light. The bikes are important: they come with comfy saddles, a waterproof map case attached to straight handlebars and double sided panniers at the rear, and none are more than two years old.

LEAD IN PRICE:

A week’s independent cycling in the Bastide Villages of South-West France costs from £515 per person sharing including seven nights B&B in four 2 and 3 star hotels and chambres d’hôtes, 3 dinners, cycle hire, cycling maps and notes and luggage transported between hotels. Including Gatwick-Toulouse scheduled flights and rail and taxi transfers, the cost is from £685pp.
