The Travel Foundation is excited to announce the launch of 'Hatch' the turtle - the charity's first ever campaign aimed specifically at children.
‘Hatch’ is an animated Hawksbill turtle who features in a colourful and fun activity booklet that includes sustainability messages integrated among various exciting activities. Children can play a game of Ladders and Adders, colour in Hatch’s friend, Tim the Tiger, and rescue Charlie the Chimp. Kids can even learn to talk Turtlish!
This is the first time that sustainability messages have been integrated into a booklet specifically aimed at children, and the ‘Hatch’ booklet has been launched in conjunction with the Born Free Foundation and the charity’s partners – First Choice, MyTravel, Thomas Cook and Thomson, who will be distributing the booklet. First Choice are handing out ‘Hatch’ to in-flight customers, while MyTravel, Thomas Cook and Thomson are all distributing the booklet in various destination Kids’ Clubs.
The Travel Foundation hopes that the campaign will make children (and their parents) more aware of the simple things they can do when they travel to make a huge difference to their favourite destinations.
Sue Hurdle, Chief Executive of The Travel Foundation, and this year’s SHINE Awards winner – Public Sector Woman of the Year – said, “The launch of ‘Hatch’ is an incredibly exciting time for us and we hope that he will inspire children to help keep holiday destinations special into the future, as well as encouraging them to find out more and get the whole family thinking about sustainability.”
Will Travers, CEO of the Born Free Foundation, said, “This new initiative is a fantastic step forward in helping children to learn about sustainability and animal welfare in a stimulating and fun way, and we are extremely pleased to have worked with The Travel Foundation on this campaign.”
Last year, The Travel Foundation launched their Insider Guide – a handy leaflet that demonstrates how, in just a few simple steps, holidaymakers can make a real difference when they travel and get even more out of their holiday.
