A Chic Leafy Retreat

Summer 2006 welcomes the new light-lunch hot-spot of the Terrace Montaigne, another addition to the outside dining experience at the Plaza Athenee. Famous for its beautiful marble courtyard, (La Cour Jardin) the hotel has introduced a voyeur’s paradise. Nestled among the creepers and geraniums and tucked behind the railings of the hotel’s façade, a leafy retreat has been transformed from an empty space, into the elegantly decked ‘La Terrace Montaigne’.

The menu, inspired by Chef Phillipe Marc - the man behind the hotel’s famous Relais Plaza - offers light and refreshing dishes, which incorporate the freshest seasonal ingredients (overseen by Alain Ducasse) and unusual combinations to satisfy any palate.

The menu offers an exciting range of salads and club sandwiches among tantalizing dishes such as pea risotto and slices of lean roast beef or smoked salmon with guacamole lime. With the most tempting dishes, La Terrace Montaigne offers a perfect place to catch up with friends after shopping on Paris’ most famous boutique-lined Avenue.

The diners are perfectly positioned in the heart of the Avenue for people-spotting, but the perfectly trimmed box-hedge keeps them hidden from envious passers-by. Protected from the shade of the trademark crimson canopies which can be spotted from the top of the Avenue Montaigne, the guests are able to enjoy a private art display of their own. Philippe Starck’s protégée Patrick Jouin, famous for his incredible glass and light structures that have contributed to the fame of Le Bar du Plaza Athénée, has designed and transferred a print that lights up the inside of each canopy when the sun beats down; A hidden treat for diners to enjoy during a light lunch and catch-up with their friends after a morning’s shopping. On particularly hot days, the air is cooled by hidden jets of water vapour, which send a light spritz into the air every few minutes, keeping the temperature at a perfect level (without compromising the ladies’ coiffures!)

For summer in Paris – this is the must-visit dining terrace, for it is ideal for those who want to be at the forefront of what’s going on, whilst blending in with the beautiful and iconic façade of the Plaza Athénée.
