5 star Copenhagen - cheaper than you think

Copenhagen has a reputation for being an expensive city but new research shows that, if you want to stay in four or five star hotels, it is actually one of the cheapest places in Europe.

This new research into European room prices has been published by the Danish hotel and restaurant trade organisation HORESTA. Out of the 26 European cities surveyed Copenhagen was ninth cheapest, ahead of cities such as Geneva, Barcelona, Stockholm and Frankfurt.

It is particularly among the four and five star hotels that Copenhagen offers the best value in comparison with a long list of cities, burying forever the myth of Copenhagen as an expensive city.

One of the reasons behind the low prices is the massive increase in hotel capacity in Copenhagen, equivalent to 40 per cent between 1998 and 2005. Today the city offers over 13,000 hotel rooms in all, of which more than 6000 are four- and five-star.

Copenhagen isfourth cheapest

If guests are able to deduct the Value added or purchase tax from their overnights, Copenhagen then moves up to fourth cheapest among the 26 European cities surveyed.

Copenhagen is a popular city for meetings and conferences. Over the last decade the capital has steadily risen up the UIA's list of the world?s top ten most popular congress cities in the world.
