Complete works of Shakespeare’ for 2006

The Royal Shakespeare Company is to start work on a temporary theatre later this year that will be ready in time for the “Complete Works of Shakespeare Festival” in 2006.

The biggest theatrical celebration in the company's history, it will run for a year from April 2006 – April 2007. The 1,000 seat Courtyard Theatre will hold a thrust stage with the audience wrapped around and will be built as an extension to the RSC's studio theatre -The Other Place.

With sound-proofing to meet the RSC's high acoustic requirements and climate control, the Courtyard Theatre will take over as the company's main theatre in Stratford from 2007 when work starts on the £100 million, two-year redevelopment of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. The Courtyard Theatre will then close and The Other Place will return to its current role as the RSC's theatre for new and experimental work.
