Dress warm is the motto in Carinthia for the next few days. The Siberian icy temperatures have reached the southern-most province in Austria (down to -20 degrees Celsius) However, it is not all doom and gloom.
The temperature change has created perfect natural ice rinks on Austria’s lakes, where even Lake Wörthersee has created an icy blanket and after six years, is due to open for enthusiastic ice skaters from Saturday 28th January, providing 19.5 km2 of natural skating space for the public!
The Lake Wörthersee region is a popular film location and the subject of many Austrian songs and as such is one of the most beautiful and famous lakes in Austria.
No wonder therefore that visitors and locals, celebrities and wannabes, the young and young at heart alike have always felt at home on its scenic shores.
