With over 400 shopping centres, innumerable shopping streets and a variety of outlet centres and markets, shopping is good in Germany. And it’s about to get even better with the opening Hamburg’s brand new Europa Passage.
Over 100 shops will open their doors on 05 October 2006, when Europe’s largest city centre mall will welcome its first visitors. Seventy percent of stores will be new to Hamburg, hereby adding to the city’s appeal as a shopping destination.
Other highlights include Europe’s largest sports store ‘Karstadt Sport’ and flagship stores of Hamburg’s famous fashion designers Jill Sander and Wolfgang Joop.
If you’re looking for designer gear at a discounted rate, be sure to stop at Germany’s designer outlets. In Metzingen near Stuttgart, for example, Hugo Boss opened a factory shop in the 1970s, where he sold parts of his collection directly from the factory. Today Metzingen also features many other German and international brands at outlet prices.
After stocking up on the latest autumn collection, we strongly recommend you sample some of Germany’s other delights such as HARIBO sweets and Milka chocolate. Or how about some excellent German wine, a beer or a Jägermeister herb liqueur?
A comprehensive guide to shopping in Germany with invaluable tips about the best shopping streets, fashionable brands, shopping centres and how to make a fun-filled weekend out of it is available from the German National Tourist Office.
