Philip Riddle, Chief Executive of VisitScotland said: "Scotland continues to increase in popularity as a movie backdrop and has an excellent reputation for being extremely film friendly. It is very satisfying to see films like ‘The Adventures of Greyfriars Bobby’, that have taken advantage of the excellent locations and service on offer, are coming back to premiere here. It is also fitting that this family film is launching at the same time as our Children Welcome Scheme which recognises special efforts made by tourism businesses catering for family holidays and also gives us an opportunity to highlight specifically dog-friendly accommodation.
“Among the filming locations showcased by ‘The Adventures of Greyfriars Bobby’ are Edinburgh Castle, Stirling Castle and Holyrood Park - some of Historic Scotland’s premier sites and fantastic attractions for families to visit. We wish the film every success and hope it encourages fans to discover the locations for themselves.”
The film tells the story of the adventures of Constable John Gray’s loyal terrier Bobby who, after Gray’s death, is entrusted to Ewan, a shy young man whom Gray had taken under his wing. Despite their friendship, Bobby refuses to leave his master’s side, sleeping on his grave in Greyfriars churchyard night after night. However, when a new dog licensing act puts Bobby’s life in danger, Ewan must overcome his shyness and embark on a fight to save him. A big story with a very small hero, “The Adventures of Greyfriars Bobby” is a magical film for all the family.
Edinburgh is the only city to have a dog, Greyfriars Bobby, on the list of citizens given the prestigious Freedom of the City Award.
