The Smash-Hit Show - A Worldwide Phenomenon!

Sing-a-long a Sound of MusicThe smash-hit phenomenon Sing-a-long a Sound of Music returns to the hills of Austria, as the show has its premiere in Salzburg on June 22nd. Having played for 6 years in London and all over the world, it now opens in the land where the classic film was shot in 1965. The premiere will feature one of the stars of the film, Charmian Carr, who played Liesl and sang “I am sixteen, going on seventeen” in the famous gazebo scene.

The land of Mozart and mountains will play host to Sing-a-long-a Sound of Music throughout the Summer months, beginning in early July. It will play at the Mozart Cinema in the centre of Salzburg on a daily basis. Surprisingly, the film is hardly known in Austria and the stage show of The Sound of Music has only just opened for the first time, to great acclaim, in the capital, Vienna. Salzburg is one of Austria’s main tourist destinations and thousands of visitors from the UK, USA and the rest of the world go there every year to visit the sites featured in the famous film. At the other end of the musical scale, the city is famous for being the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

For those not yet converted, Sing-a-long-a Sound of Music is a screening of the classic Julie Andrews film musical in glorious, full-screen Technicolor, complete with subtitles so that the whole audience can sing along! The fun-filled show starts with a vocal warm-up led by the evening’s host, who also takes the audience through their complimentary ‘magic moments pack’, containing various props to be used at strategic points throughout the film. Then of course there is the famous fancy-dress competition in which everyone who has come in costume is invited onto the stage to show off their fantastic tailoring skills.

The premiere of Sing-a-long-a Sound of Music in Salzburg will be hosted by Scotland’s Tom Urie (from TV’s Chewin’ the Fat), who is an enormous fan of the film. He will be joined by Charmian Carr who will help judge the fancy dress competition and may be persuaded to reprise some of the songs that have made her famous the world over.

Sing-a-long-a Sound of Music is presented in Salzburg by Singalonga Productions in conjunction with Panorama Tours, Salzburg and with the co-operation of Twentieth Century Fox and Rodgers & Hammerstein.
