Kent is getting into the festive spirit and warming up for a multitude of Christmas events this December. If you're looking for original Christmas gifts, taking children on a magical adventure or enjoying traditional carols and indulging in seasonal treats, there's plenty of reasons to wrap up warm and explore Kent's winter wonderland.
Santa Specials on the Kent & East Sussex Railway - 3rd to 24th December
Join the Santa Special from Tenterden station and enjoy presents, mince pies and chocolate during the one hour journey through the Kentish Weald. Back at the station, the kids can meet Santa and real reindeer at the Winter Wonderland and take free rides on a Victorian Carousel. Tickets cost £12 standard class/£17 first class for Adults and Children over 18mths.
Snow Park at Diggerland - 3rd December to 27th March
During December Diggerland gets a coating of fluffy white snow, with two ski runs, a snowboarders' terrain and an area of 1000sq metres that is dedicated to smaller children for tobogganing, snowball fights and the building of snowmen. A days lift pass costs £15.
Christmas Farmer's Market Penshurst - 3rd December
On 3rd December, historic Penshurst Place will host a festive farmer's market, complete with carols, mulled apple punch, roasted chestnuts and Father Christmas. There will be a chance to buy Kentish hampers, Christmas trees, as well as locally sourced organic meats, cheese, fruit juices and vegetables.
Holly King Sunday - 4th December
In pagan times Holly was considered the King of the Forest, and so on the 11th December, children can enjoy a forage through the woods near to Wildwood Wildlife Centre before making their own festive decorations from the holly, nuts and berries they have gathered. Entry is free. Festive decorations cost £2 each.
Candlelight Christmas - 10th to 24th December
Leeds Castle will be illuminated by hundreds of real flickering candles. Visitors will be able to wander through the candlelit traditional castle rooms whilst listening to period music.
Cathedral Christmas Carols - 12th December
What better way to experience the cheer of Christmas than a traditional family carol service at the medieval Canterbury Cathedral led by the Canterbury Choral Society?
Walk off the turkey dinner on Boxing Day
Bedgebury Pinetum is running its annual Boxing Day walk. Visitors can join in with all the family and take a brisk walk through the Pinetum before enjoying some festive mulled wine and mince pies.
