Mari Lwyd Torch Lit Walk, Llanwrtyd Wells
The Mari Lwyd Torch Lit Walk on 31 December welcomes in the New Year in Britain’s quirkiest town. This annual event is a re-enactment of an old Welsh tradition where people carry the Mari (a horse skull on a long pole) from house to house. The torch lit procession is lead through the town by a cloaked figure crowned with a horse’s skull, stopping at houses for a spot of poetry jousting! This magical walkabout then heads back into town for a fantastic fireworks display and general carousing. Admission is free but visitors will need to book early for accommodation.
