The ultimate in Christmas festivities awaits a party of six ‘foodies’ at The Drawing Room, a five-star, two-rosette restaurant with rooms, near Builth Wells in scenic Mid Wales.
The exclusive three-day break, which marries the very best ingredients with expert culinary skills and country-house luxury, is hosted by chef-proprietors Colin and Melanie Dawson, whose food is described as ‘divine’ by Delicious magazine.
The six discerning guests will dine at the Chef’s Table, alongside the open-plan kitchen in this charming Georgian residence.
“We want them to relax as if they were in their own home, and enjoy both the food and the company. It will be a Christmas to remember,” said Melanie Dawson.
Intended to be a celebration of the finest Welsh produce, guests will arrive on Christmas Eve for afternoon tea including bara brith (traditional Welsh fruit loaf) served by a roaring fire. Christmas Day’s pleasures include a champagne reception and a superlative luncheon, followed by brunch and a seafood evening meal on Boxing Day.
With a string of successful restaurants and hotels behind them, the Dawsons have gained a formidable reputation. “Wales is lucky to have this gem of a new ‘restaurant with rooms’” declares the 2006 edition of The Good Hotel Guide.
Colin Dawson emphasises the high quality of produce that he buys from local farmers, including Welsh Black beef and lamb from just a few fields away.
“There is an incredible range of fresh produce in this area, and it provides endless inspiration for chefs like me,” he commented.
But food is not the only attraction at The Drawing Room. There are three individually-designed double bedrooms, Fired Earth bathrooms with underfloor heating, Penhaligon’s toiletries, luxurious linen and bathrobes, not forgetting flat screen TV/DVD players and internet access. The sumptuous lounges are the perfect place to relax with friends, and a leisurely walk in the surrounding beautiful countryside is not to be missed.
