Put it in the diary - Saturday 7 October 2006 - tickets and passes will become available for this year’s Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations.
>From 10am New Year partygoers will be able to obtain passes for The Royal Bank Street Party, which is to be one of the biggest ticketed New Year parties in the world.
Tickets will also be available for the New Year Revels at the Assembly Rooms, a dance spectacular offering the very best of traditional Scottish and disco tunes, and the ceilidh in the Gardens an open-air ‘hooley’ over two stages.
Also available will be Party Packs which this year include a party pass, scotlandistheplace.com Edinburgh’s Hogmanay hat, lanyard with event cards attached (map of stages, performance details and times), lip balm for kissable midnight lips, mobile phone charm and face transfers.
Tickets for the Concert in the Gardens, along with the name of the artists playing, will be released at a later date.
All tickets and passes are limited and offered on a first-come first-served basis. They can be acquired in a number of ways: in person from the official Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Box Office at The Hub on Castle Hill, online at www.edinburghshogmanay.com and by telephone on 0131 473 2000 - all from 10 am on Saturday 7 October.
In addition to the popular ticketed events, free highlights include:
• Friday 29 December
Torchlight Procession, an annual event where you can carry a torch to light the trail along the Royal Mile, the Mound, Princes Street and finally arrive for the climax with the burning of an icon on top of Calton Hill. There is a limited supply of torches available so make sure you get a voucher from the box office (from Saturday 7 October) before the day.
• Saturday 30 December
This year the Night Afore International sees Scotland partner with Germany to produce a cross-cultural arts extravaganza in George Street.
• Sunday 31 December
Also on New Year’s Eve, St. Giles’ Cathedral plays host to an evening of tranquillity and classical music with a Candlelit Concert (tickets on sale on 7 October).
• 1 January 2007
New Year’s Day celebrations include the bracing One O’Clock Run. This event is subject to an entry and booking fee which includes a souvenir T-shirt to be worn on the day. Other events include Edinburgh’s Dogmanay, Iron Kids’ Duathlon, the traditional ‘Looney Dook’ in the Firth of Forth and the Edinburgh Bike Triathlon, for which there is a small registration fee (tickets on sale on 7 October).

This year Edinburgh is gearing itself up for a sparkling season of activities with programmes for Christmas and Hogmanay brimming with things to see and do for all the family. Highlights of Edinburgh’s Christmas programme include the return of the popular Traditional German Christmas Market, the Winter Wonderland, a truly magical experience set in East Princes Street Gardens at the foot of the Castle, and the Edinburgh Wheel. This year also sees the return of the popular Great Scottish Santa Run on Sunday 10 December, where thousands can join together for a 1.5km circuit of West Princes Street Gardens and raise money for the ‘When You Wish Upon a Star’ children’s charity.
