In 2006, the entire world will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of W.A. Mozart’s, one of the greatest composers of all time. His life, artistic inspiration and unique creations are essentially linked with Prague.
It was in Prague’s Theatre of Estates, the then Nostitz Theatre, in which the world premieres of his Prague Symphony, the famous opera Don Giovanni and later also La Clemenza di Tito took place.
In Prague, Mozart frequently stayed with his friends the Dusseks at their Villa Bertramka, now the Mozart Museum, but a number of other places in Prague are closely linked to his stay as well. The exceptional position of this city in the life of Mozart is demonstrated in his famous quote: “My Praguers understand me.”
The project Mozart Prague 2006 is part of the worldwide tribute to this important anniversary, with similar events taking place in Vienna and Salzburg. The projects are prepared in cooperation with the City of Prague and under the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
More than 150 concerts, opera performances, exhibitions, movies and music festivals are part of the program of Mozart Prague 2006. Its organizers are 16 eminent Czech cultural institutions.
