Re-opened Tivoli concert hall Houses Sharks

Ten months of building and refurbishing have resulted in a more beautiful, larger and more accessible Tivoli Concert Hall. Among its new attractions is the Tivoli Aquarium, Europe's longest salt water aquarium holding approx. 1600 tropical fish and sharks.

A high priority in planning the refurbishment of the Tivoli Concert Hall has been to improve the circumstances for Concert Hall visitors while preserving the hall's original style and unique acoustics. Seating comfort, accessibility, backstage facilities and areas for the general public have been improved, and the size of the public areas has been increased to 1300 m2.

New Aquarium With Sharks
The basement level has been turned into the Aqarium Foyer, housing Europe's longest salt water aquarium. Approx. 1600 fish, rays and sharks inhabit the aquarium. The Foyer is open all day to Tivoli's visitors (unless a private function is taking place). The Concert Hall will thus be included in the Tivoli Gardens experience, even when no concerts are being held.

Exclusive Lounge Overlooking The Gardens
On the top floor of the Concert Hall the Balanchine Lounge overlooks Tivoli's open-air stage and central fountain. The Lounge is furnished with contemporary Danish design and a piece of art has been commissioned especially for the new Lounge. The Rotunda is a brand-new foyer (700 m2) next to the existing building. The circular glass building serves as the new main entrance to the building and has a café, a two-storey bar and a view of Tivoli.

Improved Accessibility For Disabled
The improved conditions for the general public also include improved accessibility for disabled visitors. Designers Frits Schlegel and Hans Hansen's original Concert Hall from 1956 incorporated trail-blazing ideas with regard to effortless architecture and modern building techniques, but back then accessibility for disabled persons was not on the agenda. The refurbishment of the hall has been planned and designed by architects 3 x Nielsen. It has cost DKK 125 mill. where of DKK 10 mill. have been earmarked to improve accessibility for disabled persons.
