Yorkshire hosts Indian film academy awards

The bright and the beautiful of the Indian film industry, as well as international celebrities, will travel to Yorkshire this summer for the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA). The event will be broadcast to nearly 500 million viewers in 110 countries. It is part of a four-day celebration of South Asian culture and creativity (June 7-10) including events in five Yorkshire cities.

The main awards ceremony in Sheffield on June 9 will be preceded by a celebrity cricket match at the renowned Headingley Stadium in Leeds (June 8). Other events take place in Bradford, York and Hull and include the IIFA Film Festival, World Premiere and IIFA Film Workshop. The weekend takes place in a county that has long been a popular source of film locations for the sub-continent's film industry – thanks to a successful bid to host it undertaken by regional tourism marketing agency Yorkshire Tourist Board, with support from Yorkshire Forward and other partners. Public tickets are available for certain events.
