Show some Real LOVE in Purple Love Week

Purple Love WeekA Dorset producer, who is passionate about supporting independent shops, is launching a special event for the very first time in 2006. Purple Love Week , which aims to spread a little happiness and cheer from 11th – 18th February, is the brainchild of Giles Henschel, the food visionary who, along with his wife, Annie, decided to make British olives many years ago when nothing other than dyed black and chemically enhanced, mass produced commodity style olives were available.

It was the dyed black olive, or at least the real Kalamata version, that fired Giles’ imagination into Purple Love Week. “There isn’t really any such thing as a true black olive unless it’s been dyed so to illustrate Purple Love Week we’ve used an unadulterated, deep purple Kalamata olive to symbolize the very essence of good food,” said Giles.

For seven days in February Purple Love Week will hit over 550 delis, farm and independent food shops around the country from Scotland to Cornwall. To encourage the spread of Purple Love , Olives Et Al has published a little book all about Purple Love and 40,000 will be distributed to over 550 delis and 12,000 consumers.

“Our very own Declaration of Independence is our total commitment to supporting the hundreds of delis, farm-shops and independent food shops we supply. They each offer a totally different shopping experience, not branded, corporate or homogenised, but shops run by friendly, food-loving people where a free taste of something delicious is the norm - not the exception. In order to protect these shops we have to support and nurture them and we think spreading a little Purple Love is a fun way of getting across a serious message - love these shops, support them and help them or lose them. It’s really as simple as that,” concluded Giles.
