Spice Route - Top 10

Spice Route, Windsor's first contemporary Indian restaurant, is the brainchild of Mridula Baljekar, best-selling author and TV chef. Tucked away in Boots Passage, off Thames Street, the restaurant has 54 covers and its decor is elegant and thoroughly modern.

Spice Route serves haute Indian cuisine and encapsulates the tastes of different regions of India. The dishes are designed to reflect traditional Indian tastes with brilliant modern twists. The restaurant opened its door in December 2001 and has already earned rave reviews. It has also won the coveted BIBA (Best in Britain Awards) Gold Award in the Best Newcomer category in June 2002.

In 2003 Spice Route was placed among the Top 100, followed in 2004 and 2005 among the Top 30, also by BIBA. In 2005 the restaurant was placed in Top 10 both by The Independent and Square Meals in the Saturday Times.

Mridula has four highly skilled chefs in the kitchen all of whom were handpicked by her during a trip to India before opening the restaurant. She works alongside her chefs and together they create a menu which is a far cry from the menus generally found in other Indian restaurants.

Spice Route attracts regular media attention and has catered to celebrities and politicians alike. Among them was a private dinner party for Jerry Hall and a summer garden party at 10 Downing Street for Tony and Cherie Blair.
