A Scottish hotel has become the first in the country to offer its guests an outdoor butler service. The Kinnaird Hotel and Sporting Estate in Perthshire was the location of house parties as early as the 1920s and the outdoor butler will maintain this tradition, enabling guests to enjoy the 7,000 acre sporting estate in optimum comfort and luxury. Chosen for his concierge skills and outdoors knowledge, among the services he offers are:
- Setting up a gourmet picnic on the scenic estate and heating guests' boots prior to excursions.
- Providing a 'meet and heat' service: guests are supplied with hot spiced whisky or mulled wine at regular intervals. A hotline to the butler allows guests to summon him with additional clothing or supplies should the weather change.
- Working with an experienced gillie who will take guests fishing, hiking or mushroom picking on a private stretch of the River Tay.
Kinnaird is an 18th-century mansion with nine bedrooms, two Courtyard Cottages and additional accommodation in Estate Cottages. It is situated by Dunkeld, just over an hour from Edinburgh and Glasgow. Prices are from £275 per room per night, based on two sharing. Reservations, tel. 01796 482440.
