Bolton Boy Vernon to Host The 2006 Manchester Tourism Awards

Marketing Manchester is delighted to announce that Vernon Kay will once again grace the red carpet and be in town to host the 2006 Manchester Tourism Awards.

In conjunction with the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), the Awards aim to recognise and reward the high level of dedication to tourism throughout the Greater Manchester region. The lavish occasion will see over 400 guests descend on Manchester International Convention Centre (MICC) for an evening of celebration and fun.

The Awards, which take place on Thursday 2nd February, will be made all the more special due to the unprecedented support from key players within the industry including NCP Manchester Ltd., BA Connect, Virgin Trains and Laterooms Limited.

This year there are thirteen categories that aim to cover the whole range of tourism providers throughout the region. Most notably the Manchester Recommends award is chosen by local residents and will recognise levels of investment in quality and outstanding contributions to tourism.

Some of the winners will also be entered into the England’s Northwest Tourism Awards 2006, to be held in October this year.

Andrew Stokes, chief executive, Marketing Manchester comments:

“Marketing Manchester is proud to work alongside such highly prestigious establishments on the 2006 Manchester Tourism Awards. The standard of entries has been extremely high, reflecting the excellent tourism product the city-region has to offer. Tourism is essential to Greater Manchester’s economy, it is therefore a delight to reward the winners and celebrate achievement across the industry.”

Peter Mearns, director of marketing at the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), comments:

The NWDA is pleased to support the Manchester Tourism Awards. Tourism is a major success story for the Northwest and it is a pleasure to see the hard work and commitment of professionals in the industry being recognised through these awards. I am confident that we will once again have some strong contenders from Manchester going forward to the regional awards later this year and the national awards in 2007.
