Over 75% of us prefer family festivities in Blighty, when it comes to the festive season, over three quarters of Brits rate a family Christmas at home as better than heading to sunnier climes, according to a poll conducted by Cheapflights.co.uk.
When asked whether they were travelling abroad for Christmas, 75% of respondents said 'no'. An overwhelming 81% favoured spending Christmas with the family, rather than heading away to avoid the turkey.
Of those wishing to go away, the English and Welsh preferred Christmas in a cold and snowy climate. However the perhaps 'not-so-hardy' Scots favoured seeing Saint Nicholas in the sunshine. When asked whether you want to go somewhere that "reflects the true meaning of Christmas", the poll showed that only 5% of us wanted to go somewhere that would remind us of this. This seems to suggest that we may have lost sight of what this festive season is all about.
Liz Faherty, director of business development for Cheapflights.co.uk says: "Cheapflights.co.uk has found that while many Brits prefer to spend Christmas Day itself at home, travel searches tend to increase soon after 25th December, making January our busiest month of the year. Cheapflights.co.uk compares prices from over 700 travel suppliers; Brits can always find a late bargain deal for New Year or to experience a little sun when the UK is in the grips of winter."
The poll questions were answered by British consumers responding to the Cheapflights.co.uk newsletter, issued every week to over 1.6 million subscribers nationwide.
