Going Underground : If history is your passion, then a trip to Kent’s Cavern will provide you with an extraordinary insight into one of the most important Palaeolithic caves in Northern Europe and the oldest recognisable human dwelling in Britain. Between the 24th and 27th August Dartmouth Regatta provides a fantastic opportunity to see the Red Arrows Battle of Britain Memorial flight, experience the Kon Tiki Raft Race and enjoy a steamboat rally, all for free . A sparkling night out can be enjoyed on August 16th and 17th at Plymouth Hoe, when the UK’s British Firework Championships takes place, with firework companies competing against each other for the title of British Champion. Displays start at 9.30pm and are free.
Wild Horses : Meet the Medieval Knights of Powderham Castle as they joust and jape in the outdoor arena at this historic family home. The whole family (2 adults and 2 children) can enjoy the live re-enactments and watch out for the wicked Black Knight for just £14.00 . For something different try The Dartmoor Folk Festival (5th to 7th August) which offers a friendly, traditional festival environment with a ceilidh, song & music sessions, craft displays and dances for just £15 for an adult day pass, promising a truly memorable family day out.
