Donald Trump plans Scottish golf centre

American billionaire Donald Trump plans to build “the greatest golf course anywhere” on an 800-acre stretch of sand dunes at Menie Estate, Aberdeenshire, in North-East Scotland. The development, to be known as Trump International Golf Links, Scotland, will include two championship courses, a five-star hotel, a golf academy and a turf grass research centre.

Planning and permitting is underway, with work set to start by September, and a course opening in spring 2008.

Trump’s passion for Scotland stems from his mother, Mary MacLeod, who grew up in Stornoway on the Hebridean island of Lewis. Scotland is well known as the home of golf and boasts championship courses at St. Andrew’s, Turnberry and Gleneagles among others.
