El Gouna, commonly referred to as the Red Sea's Premier Leisure Destination, will be home to the World's largest Kite Surfing Centre, due to open in March 2006.
Kite Surfing is the fastest growing watersport, currently ‘making waves’ around the world. A combination of windsurfing, wakeboarding, and kite flying surfers are attached to a kite by a harness and with a board to ride. The idea is to hurtle across the water, taking off when you hit the waves. At El Gouna kitesurfers can ride at up to 40 knots and jump higher than 10 metres.
It’s a sport suitable for young and old, with instruction starting at just 12 years old. The Kiteboarding Club Kite Surfing Centre at El Gouna covers more than 1500 sqm offering facilities for kite surfers of all levels, from complete beginners who can register for instruction and hire equipment, to experienced kite surfers, who can use the Centre’s compressor and storage areas for blowing up and storing their kites and boards.
A ‘Calm Room’ has billiard and football tables, along with a library having more than 2000 books. There is a large rooftop terrace bar and lounge.
Other centers also include The Kite Power Centre, which is located on a private section of Mangroovy beach, and is hired under lease so visitors can enjoy a secluded area whilst experiencing kite surfing. The center’s motto is “Movement not standstill” and with this in mind a wide variety of lessons and courses are offered, whether you are a complete novice or want to enhance your skills in one of the advanced courses. Mangroovy Beach is situated at the northern end of El Gouna and can be reached from any hotel by a shuttle bus, which costs approximately £1 for a seven day ticket.
Dive Tribe prides themselves in being the specialists of water sports in the Red Sea and they offer light to medium winds and shallow waters, the perfect conditions for kite surfing. Dive Tribe offer a variety of packages including full day service, safety boat hire, refresher courses and private advanced lessons.
