After a very successful first publication, the German National Tourist Office (GNTO) has launched a new and extended edition of its gardens brochure. ‘Garden Treasures of Germany’ features Germany’s 10 gardening hotspots with attractions ranging from botanical collections to palatial parks and private gardens.

Marianne Förster lives in Potsdam near Berlin, where she has taken over her father Karl’s garden and has kept it exactly how it was created by Karl nearly 100 years ago. The garden occupies 6,000 fascination square metres and – young lovers beware: according to Marianne 30 couples stepped in front of the altar very shortly after visiting her garden!
While in the Berlin area, take some time to visit the Gardens of the World in the suburb of Marzahn. Here garden historians and designers have created authentic Chinese, Japanese, Balinese and Oriental gardens.
In the Bremen region green fingered visitors will enjoy a day in the Rhododendron Park, where 680 species of rhododendrons and 1,000 hybrids each of rhododendrons and azaleas blossom every year, as well as the adjoining Botanika Natural Science Experience Centre.
At their home in Bad Zwischenahn Ingrid and Hans de Witt have planted their garden in the symmetrical layout of a house, complete with ‘rooms’ and ‘walls’ as well as a ‘white garden’ with an outstanding rose display.
In addition to the regions of Berlin and Bremen, ‘Garden Treasures of Germany’ also features gardens and parks in and around Hamburg, the Lower Rhine region, Germany’s North East, Lower Saxony, Cologne, Frankfurt, Franconia, Munich, Stuttgart and Lake Constance.
