Unique Picasso collection in Leicester

Film director and actor Lord Attenborough's collection of Picasso ceramics will be on display this summer in a new exhibition at the New Walk Museum and Art Gallery in the East Midland city of Leicester.

'Picasso: the Attenborough Collection' (June 17-September 30) will feature jugs, plates and tiles and explore the development of the artist from 1947 to his death in 1973. Lord and Lady Attenborough built up their collection through frequent visits to the Madoura pottery factory in Vallauris, France where Picasso created his works. Open daily, admission free, tel: 0116 225 4900. Leicester (100 miles north of London) is home to the National Space Centre and offers many opportunities for eating, drinking and shopping including the Belgrave Road which has some of the best Asian shops and restaurants in the UK.
