SAS Raises a glass to new city route

Scandinavian Airlines marked the extension of its London City services on Monday, with the launch of its new double daily flights to Stockholm, in addition to its existing flights to Copenhagen.

Lars Ove-Filipson, SAS General Manager United Kingdom and Ireland, welcomed passengers off the inaugural inbound flight from Stockholm as they arrived at London City Airport, along with Richard Gooding, managing director of London City Airport. Invited guests were then treated to lunch at the Conran Plateau restaurant in Canary Wharf, followed by a river cruise to the London Eye where guests enjoyed the sights of London.

This new service from SAS marks the expansion of its network from London City Airport, and complements its existing double daily service to Copenhagen launched last year. SAS will be operating a double daily Monday to Friday and Sunday single service.

Passengers on the inaugural outbound flight from London City Airport to Stockholm were also treated to the SAS experience, with a reception in the departure lounge hosted by Lars Ove-Filipson.

The inaugural flights were celebrated after a week of promotional activity at Canary Wharf, including the return of the popular SAS Vikings who were giving locals the chance to win free flights with the airline.

Lars Ove-Filipson, said: "We are thrilled to be flying the SAS flag again at London City Airport. This is a very important airport for us, and we are pleased to increase our offering with a new twice-daily service to Stockholm. Business and leisure travellers in the Canary Wharf, City of London and Westminster catchment areas can now choose to fly to Stockholm and Copenhagen straight from their doorstep. This new service complements our existing 40 weekly flights from London Heathrow to Stockholm and will bring our weekly services from the capital to Stockholm to more than 50."

SAS will offer a full three class service, with Business, Economy Flex and Economy. SAS is the only European airline to offer flexible one-way tickets which are combinable [1] across all three classes. SAS passengers can tailor their travel to suit their individual needs, be that Economy on the outbound leg and Economy Flex or Business Class on the return, giving the business traveller greater flexibility and ensuring that travel needs fit around their business and not the other way around.
