Search For Top Tourism Businesses Begins

The search for Scotland’s top tourism businesses began today, when this year’s VisitScotland Thistle Awards were launched at the Musselburgh Racecourse.

Launching this year’s awards, model Anita Barry donned a ‘thistle inspired’ Easter bonnet, designed by Edinburgh based milliner Jeannette Sendler, for the Sunday races.

As the 2005 winner for their Ladies’ Day campaign, in the Small Business Marketing Initiative Award, Musselburgh Racecourse was chosen as the ideal venue to reveal Ms Sendler’s creation.

The awards, which are widely recognised as one of the top accolades a tourism business can receive, seek out Scottish tourism businesses that consistently strive for quality and innovation.

The annual event - now in its 15th year is open to all businesses operating in Scotland’s tourism industry.

With 10 diverse categories, businesses are able to enter as many categories as applicable and the closing date for entries is Thursday 08th June.

The finalists will be announced in September with the overall winners announced at the glittering Awards Ceremony and dinner at the EICC on Friday 27th October

Commenting on the launch of the awards, Philip Riddle, VisitScotland Chief Executive, said:

“Now in their 15th year, the Scottish Thistle Awards are firmly established as the benchmark of excellence and innovation across Scottish tourism.

“The awards provide the perfect platform for tourism businesses throughout Scotland to showcase the quality of products and services they provide to the visitor.

“I look forward to seeing the usual high number of quality entries, that reflect the type of businesses we have here in Scotland, in June and the announcement of winners towards the end of the year.”
