Tutankhamun exhibition in London

A major show of ancient Egyptian artefacts, 'Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs', will open in London this autumn (November 15 – August 30, 2008). The first exhibition at the new O2centre, formerly the Millennium Dome, in Greenwich, it will feature 130 treasures from the Valley of the Kings tombs and a gallery dedicated to Howard Carter, the British archaeologist who discovered the boy king's tomb in 1922.

It is 30 years since the treasures of Tutankhamun appeared in the capital at the British Museum, an exhibition visited by a record-breaking 1.8 million people. Tourist board Visit London has set up a website which tells visitors all they need to know about the new exhibition, allows them to register for tickets and features other Egyptian attractions in London. These include the Egyptology section of the British Museum, Cleopatra's Needle beside the River Thames and the Egyptian Hall at department store Harrods. The centrepiece of the new O2is London's latest music and sports arena which will be surrounded by an entertainment district including cinemas, exhibition spaces, restaurants, cafes and bars.
